"I think every woman should have leopard, but not every woman will wear leopard... because you have to have courage to wear leopard." Designer, Rachel Zoe
I remember when I first saw these leopard print “booties” at the store. I let out a gasp & I just had to have them! I envisioned everything I would wear with them & by the time I left I already had 3 outfits in my head to go with them perfectly. I’m all about making a statement whether it's through my jewelry, clothing or shoes so bold prints are right up my alley. But a big bold print like leopard can sometimes leave you stumped & have you asking yourself Who, What, Where & Why. Here’s what I mean:
Who can get away with wearing leopard? Am I too old, young or professional to pull this off?
What am I going to wear with this?
Where am I going to wear this? Work, a night out, only on the weekends?
Why should I jump in on this trend that everyone is embracing?
Read on to get the answers to all of these questions.
- So WHO can get away with this trend?
Leopard print has taken over fashion & become universal; it’s even been given a title by some of “the new neutral” and has been seen on everyone from Michelle Obama to Kate Middleton. Leopard print is becoming a phenomenon in the fashion world & being incorporated into clothes, accessories, coats and shoes. The leopard craze can sometimes cause hesitation because it’s a bold & busy print but it has no age limit and can look quite professional depending on the item. The pictures below show the professional way to add in some leopard print.
- So, how exactly do you pull off that leopard purse, shoes or coat that looks so stylish on everyone else? WHAT do you wear it with?
In the last post I discussed wearing black and brown and how leopard print can bring the two colors together, but the pairing options are so much more then neutrals. Black and brown are good to pair with leopard if you are going for a more sleek and sophisticated look, but if you are going for an eye-catching look try pairing it with red, purple, blue etc. I’m a fan of leopard print and red but look below for some more color combinations to pair up with leopard.
- Next, WHERE can you wear this print?
As you can see above leopard print can be dressed up or down; and with the right piece can be worn casually, professionally or even in a semi formal setting. It’s often believed you can only wear it casually but see the picture below of Michelle Obama hosting an event in a leopard print dress.

- Last but not least WHY should you embrace this trend?
This trend is timeless and always makes its way back to popularity in the fashion world. If you're into making a statement or just adding some subtle yet bold flair to your wardrobe, give it a try.
Other tips to pulling off this trend:
-Stick w one animal print item of clothing or accessory. An overload of animal print can cross the line into looking cheap or like you are in route to a costume party.
-As stated before pairing with simple colors works well but if you are feeling adventurous pair it with another print; just make sure you stick to basic prints to avoid an overload of patterns & an overall "busy" look
