One of the easiest ways to create new looks within your wardrobe is to master the art of mixing and matching. One aspect of mixing and matching that I currently love is mixing prints and patterns.

Mixing prints is for all the fashion risk takers, those that like to be a little unconventional with their wardrobe, or just want to add some extra personality and fun to their ordinary clothes.

This trend is not an everyday look, but it's good to throw in on the days when you feel like you have nothing to wear (which we all have).

So are you ready to look at your wardrobe with a new trendy set of eyes? Follow the tips below to perfect the mix and match look with prints and patterns.

1. Stick w the same color family. Similar colors and palettes will help blend the contrasting prints. As you can see above the consistent colors in all pieces are burgundy, blue and black.

2. Avoid pairing 2 bold prints, instead choose one big or bold print & then choose a smaller or less dominate print to pair it with.

3. Choose 2 printed items only. For example a shirt & a pair of pants, or a shirt & skirt; then make sure everything else is a solid color. Wearing a shirt, vest, pants & coat that all have different prints will make your look more scary than fashionable.

4. If you want an easy recipe for mixing prints go with polka dots & stripes; this pair usually never fails and is a classic print mixing home run.

Now that you know how to pair patterns like a pro, think of all the pieces you can put together to make new outfits. Are you up for trying this trend? Let me know in the comments.
