Outfit exhaustion- a term I use to describe the continuous cycle of wearing the same outfit the same way over & over again. If this applies to you don’t feel bad, we have all been there before; you wear an outfit, you like it, so you wear it again, and again and again. I am the number one supporter of wearing your clothes more then once, but just with a little more creativity and mixing and matching.
In a recent trip to the mall I overheard someone refer to taking each and every one of their outfit ideas from the mannequins at the store. While this idea is an automatic time saver and a good launching pad, it can often limit your outfit options and leave you stuck thinking there's only one way to wear an item. It's easy to get into the habit of wearing the same thing the same way over & over again(ex. your favorite Jeans & your favorite t shirt) but the possibilities are truly endless when you think about how many ways to wear one skirt, shirt or pair of pants. I know it's easy to throw on a ready made outfit, but it's much more fun and stylish to find new ways to wear your favorite items. Take my favorite maxi skirt as an example.
Seen on women everywhere from the mall to celebrities in the pages of magazines, the maxi skirt has become the go-to skirt for comfortable feminine style. It’s often viewed as a casual piece to wear with your favorite flats and shirt but on my quest to maximize my wardrobe & to find a way jazz up a summer favorite, I decided to transform the look completely.
I styled it the obvious casual way with my favorite jean vest & flats & then I added a lot of sparkle and glam with a sequin crop top that took this plain skirt to a whole new level. Who would’ve thought a basic maxi skirt can transition into a chic formal look fit for a fancy night out? Think about all the casual pieces you have in your closet that can be given a "formal makeover".
If you want to try this look it’s easy to take your own maxi skirt from ordinary to chic with three things:
1. A dressy or formal shirt or blazer
3. A statement piece of jewelry
With these three things your plain old skirt can turn heads. This can be done with jeans, shorts or any other plain piece in your closet that you want to transform. So the next time you feel led to go shopping for that much needed dress or formal attire, check your closet first. With some creativity and an open mind, you will be surprised what you can create.
